			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.kristywilson.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Mickey.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-1551" title="Mickey" src="http://www.kristywilson.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Mickey-204x300.jpg" alt="" width="204" height="300" /></a>It is the responsibility of the parents, in any sport, to ensure that the child knows what to expect.  Gymnastics is certainly no different; the only difference is the moves performed, rather than running dozens of laps or swimming for hours.  Ensuring that you teach your child a few things can be a great help to their overall success in gymnastics as well as your sanity as the parent.</p>
<p>Try to teach your child immediately that they are going to make mistakes.  It is how they handle these mistakes that will determine their success.  If a child is determined, that each time they try a new routine it must be perfect without fail then they are going to ultimately harm their self-esteem.  It is important to understand that mistakes are going to happen, but accepting that fact and moving along to learn from them is very important.</p>
<p>Additionally, it is a wise idea to help your child decide what is most important to them in their life.  Set up a schedule for their activities that reflects this.  Whether their goal is to become an Olympic athlete or even just use gymnastics as a simple hobby having some specific ideas in mind about what they want to do in the future is often helpful in keeping young gymnasts focuses on the major goals that they have.</p>
<p>Another important lesson for your child is teaching patience with the dozens if not hundreds of repetitions that are necessary in order to truly master a skill.  Many gymnasts practice a skill as many as thousands of times before the movement feels completely natural and flowing to them.  This is not unheard of however; most children really do not have the patience for this and need help in learning this skill.  It is important to really give your child the help they need in ensuring they practice enough.  You can never do too many repetitions of a new skill.</p>
<p>One last step that all parents should take that is often overlooked is setting up a schedule that includes time away from gymnastics and school.  Your child needs plenty of time to practice gymnastics of course, but it is also very important that they have the opportunity to rest and enjoy themselves as well.  Working and pushing too hard can result in your child burning out or injuring themselves, which is never what we want.</p>
<p>I have always said that parents can make or break a gymnast. There are many pushy parents in the gymnastics world. Try not to become one of these. Work with you child rather than against them. Working towards your child&#8217;s success is well worth the small amount of time that is necessary to ensure that you are setting them up to be a success rather than a failure.  While everyone has different ways of handling schedules and stress, working with your child to help them plan and adjust quickly is one of the best things you can do for your child.</p>
<p>Never be afraid to ask your child&#8217;s coach for help.  If you have a problem and you are unsure of how to handle it, such as helping your child calm down before meets, your child&#8217;s coach can usually help.  They have the knowledge and experience to make your job as a parent much easier.  Use them to your benefit, rather than avoiding them.  They are here to help you, and your child, attain the exact results that you desire rather than leaving you frustrated and confused.</p>

<p>Kristy, whom we first introduced to our readers <a title="Kristy Lee Wilson: Born to be a Fitness Star" href="http://whatsupusana.com/2011/11/kristy-lee-wilson-born-to-be-a-fitness-star/" target="_blank">last November</a>, has been a USANA Associate for about a year and currently is training to compete in next month’s <a href="http://www.fitnessuniverse.com/">Fitness Universe</a> competition in Miami.</p>

<p><strong>KRISTY LEE WILSON:</strong><em>The Definitive Guide to Youth Athletic Strength, Conditioning and Performance</em> (<a title="Kristy Wilson" href="../" target="_blank">pick it up here</a>) is a book written by a number of the world’s leading fitness experts. It explores the subject of fitness through conditioning the body for optimal results in young athletes. We look at the factors of mindset, nutrition and exercise — all which play a part — from all angles and for all ages.</p>
<p>We discuss the benefits of training, techniques, and the indelible influence of coaches on young athletes. Such influence often stays with individuals for a lifetime and I’m so passionate about this because it’s been the case for myself. As an 8-year-old elite gymnast, the influence my coach had on me has lasted a lifetime — no matter how hard I try to change some things, some old habits really are hard to break.</p>

<li>The stress of modern life can sometimes make it difficult to lead a healthy lifestyle. However, <em><strong>you can start living healthy, today, by adopting a healthy mindset.</strong></em></li>

<p>Even if you find yourself leaning toward a pessimistic attitude, you can still achieve a healthy mindset. You just need to go about it in the right way.</p>
<p><strong>How You Can Have a Healthier Mindset</strong></p>
<p>Many people sit back, look at their lives, and wish they could view things in a more positive manner. Then they beat themselves up for being negative or not having the attitude and responses they wish they had. This typical response doesn’t do anybody any good.</p>
<ul>
<li>Instead of feeling angry with yourself for responding to life the way you normally do, <em><strong>think positively about your desire to have a healthier mindset.</strong></em></li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Building a Healthy and Safe Support Network</strong></p>
<p>One of the most effective paths to a healthier mindset is to find ways to deal with the stress in your life. For some people, this is as simple as writing in a journal or blog every day. Other people find that talking with friends or joining a support group is a rewarding experience.</p>
<p><em><strong>It’s important to give voice to your thoughts and emotions. How you do this is up to you.</strong></em></p>
<p><strong>Eating Healthy = Feeling Healthy</strong></p>
<p>Another way to achieve a healthier mindset is to eat the right foods and get enough rest. When you feed your body healthy, nutritious foods and get the rest you need, you feel better all over. Your attitude, as well as your body, feels refreshed.</p>
<p>Food and rest will not change the way you respond to things if you tend to respond negatively, but it will be a great start. You don’t have to give up all junk food and your late night activities, but try swapping carrot sticks for French fries and an hour of sleep for your favorite late night TV show.</p>
<p>You’ll find that you’ll be able to acquire a healthier mindset when you take active steps to deal with your stress and treat your body with the tender loving care it deserves. Suddenly the world becomes a much more positive place when you pair these things with positive thinking.</p>
<ul>
<li><em><strong>Positive thinking begins when you affirm the positives in your life.</strong></em> You can use the power of positive affirmations to reprogram your mind so you can think in a healthier and more positive way.</li>
</ul>
<p>For example, each morning you could say, <em>&#8220;I make positive choices for the best of my body, mind, and soul.&#8221;</em> You can use positive affirmations in moments of weakness when you are tempted to fill up on junk food, respond negatively to something, or trade sleep for something less important.</p>
<p>When you create a healthy mindset by making good choices about food, rest, and positive thinking, you’ll enjoy the new ways you think, feel, and live. You’ll discover that your happier, healthier lifestyle has arrived!</p>

It&#8217;s great being outside and away from the distractions of the gym. The workouts are challenging, but not impossible. In just two weeks I&#8217;m already seeing an improvement in endurance and strength levels. Every workout is something different and most of all fun. The trainers and the other campers are really excited about being there and about the program itself. The enthusiasm and the encouragement really help me stay motivated and push my self harder than I think I could do on my own. I&#8217;m always looking forward to the next workout. Added bonus, you sign up for the month and you can go to as many camps as you want and with 3 times a day, 6 days a week, there&#8217;s always a camp that will fit your schedule and it&#8217;s cheaper than a gym membership.</p>

<p><strong>Camp Gladiator has been wonderful!!! I consider myself an athletic girl, however, I haven&#8217;t been able to push myself or get motivated at the gym. CG was recommended to me and I signed up on my first day! The trainers are super friendly and very encouraging and everyone involved is like a family. It was exactly what I needed! It has been great to see everyone improve while encouraging others. CG offers various locations and times around Orlando making it very convenient for everyone. <p><strong>I came across Camp Gladiator after searching online for a local boot camp to join.  I wanted an alternative to gym workouts, and I enjoy individualized instruction from a trainer in a &#8220;team&#8221; setting.  CG is unique in this regard, and it blew away my expectations of how motivating and fun workouts can be.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Each hour long session will push you hard regardless of your fitness level.  The trainers are fitness experts and will correct your form to get the most out of your workout and prevent you from injury.  Workouts are creatively tailored to challenge you and are fun!  Every session involves some sort of competition, either in teams, between campers or with yourself.  I have been consistently training for about 8 weeks now and see huge results in my strength, endurance, and flexibility.  I can&#8217;t wait to see where I will be months from now!</strong></p>
<p><strong>I have also made great friendships at camp.  The trainers and campers motivate and inspire each other to reach each individual&#8217;s fitness goals.  There are many opportunities to get involved in the community through charity 5ks, block parties, and more.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Check out Camp Gladiator if you are interested in challenging yourself.  Whether you are trying to shed some weight, build muscle tone, or de-stress, I think you will be impressed with what CG has to offer.</strong></p>

Camp Gladiator provides a really awesome outdoor workout with lots of fun. Great trainers who motivate, energize and keep us campers rapidly improving on our fitness goals! I am not one who looks forward to exercising, especially in the morning hours&#8230; but I find myself looking forward to the Camps, even the morning ones <img src='http://www.kristywilson.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  With multiple locations, different times throughout the day and almost everyday of the week. There is never a reason I can&#8217;t be at Camp. Training along side really cool campers, that steadily become friends helps keep you motivated. The support from everyone is fantastic. The workouts are always changing, always challenging and always fun. (I personally look forward to the games towards the end of each workout. It takes me back to my childhood school days, except with a little added competitiveness!) If you are looking to make a change in your life and it is fitness related, start here!!!!  You&#8217;ll get personally instructed, trained and assisted towards your goals at literally a fraction of the cost.<br />

In case you haven&#8217;t heard, the nations largest outdoor fitness company, Camp Gladiator, is now conducting workouts in Orlando and Winter Park!! Best yet, it is being run by Orlando&#8217;s top fitness trainers!!</p>
<p>Yep, top trainer Doug Reeder and fellow trainer, 2011&#8242;s Miss Fitness Florida&#8217;s Kristy Lee Wilson, are holding three free workouts next week that will be unlike any you have ever experienced.</p>
<p><strong>*Who</strong> &#8211; You, your friends, and Camp Gladiator (CG)</p>
<p><strong>*Where</strong> &#8211; Blue Jacket Park near Lake Baldwin.</p>
<p><strong>*When</strong> &#8211; March 13th &amp; 15th at 6:15 pm and March 17th at 9 am</p>
<p><strong>*What</strong> &#8211; A one hour workout that is very challenging, extremely encouraging, fun, unique, and intense!</p>
<p><strong>*What to bring</strong> &#8211; Water and workout mat if you have one (towel will work too)</p>
<p><strong>*How many</strong> &#8211; We expect a crowd of anywhere between 30 &#8211; 50 people</p>
<p><strong>*What is CG not</strong> &#8211; We are not military! We don&#8217;t wear camo and combat boots and yell at you. BORING! We workout hard and have fun doing it.</p>

Most of us do! Unfortunately, for so many, the very idea of losing weight breeds negative thoughts and feelings. You may even feel as if it’s an impossible challenge.</p>
<p>After all, who wants to think of climbing on those machines in the gym for 30 minutes to take off the pounds? Or even worse, doing sit-ups at home. Yuck!</p>
<p><em><strong>If losing weight has become a drag, you need to rethink your strategy.</strong></em></p>
<p>You’ll be glad to discover that you don’t need to go to the gym to lose weight and get the body you want!</p>
<p><strong>Here are five simple activities that will help you get healthy while having a blast:</strong></p>
<p><strong>1.    Play group sports.</strong> One great idea for losing weight the fun way is to play group sports. Next time, instead of dragging yourself to the gym and those dreaded machines, check out the recreation center in your area.</p>
<ul>
<li><em><strong>Start playing soccer, softball, volleyball, or basketball.</strong></em> With these activities, you&#8217;ll be burning off the calories while enjoying yourself at the same time!</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>2.    Go for a walk with your friends</strong>. Another great way to get active and improve your health is to start walking with friends. Meet during the week to take a brisk walk together, either in the morning before your day begins, during lunch, or in the evening after work.</p>
<ul>
<li><em><strong>Schedule your walk into your day as social time</strong></em>. While you&#8217;re walking, take time to catch up and chat with each other. This way it feels more like a social experience instead of exercise.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>3.    Dance.</strong> Dancing is another great way to burn off mega calories while you have a great time. You’ll get your heart pumping, and you’ll enjoy an awesome total workout!</p>
<ul>
<li>Take a dance class.</li>
<li>Go out to a nightclub where you can dance the night away.</li>
<li>Get some dance videos so you can dance at home.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>4.    Beautify your yard or cultivate a garden.</strong> Gardening and yard work are both activities that burn calories so you can lose some weight. Planting flowers or vegetables, pulling weeds, raking, hauling dirt, and doing other gardening chores can really help you get in shape.</p>
<ul>
<li>When you’re squatting, bending, and yanking out those weeds, you&#8217;ll be working muscles you didn’t even know you had!</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>5.    Play with your family</strong>. Even something as simple as playtime outdoors with the family can help you lose some pounds and stay healthy. Whether it&#8217;s running, Frisbee, or playing tag together, just <em><strong>having fun with the family can give you some much needed activity.</strong></em></p>
<ul>
<li>Visit a park and go hiking on the trails.</li>
<li>Climb a tree in your backyard.</li>
<li>Go swimming or skiing.</li>
</ul>
<p>The possibilities are endless! You&#8217;ll have fun spending quality time with your family, and teaching your children a healthy lifestyle as well.</p>
<p>Although these activities are fun, regular activity and eating a healthy diet go hand in hand when you want to lose weight. You can’t count one weekend of gardening as your exercise for the week. Vary your activities for more fun, and do something to get moving every day.</p>
<p><em><strong>Consistency is the key to reaching your weight loss goal.</strong></em></p>
<p>As you can see, exercising and getting in shape don&#8217;t have to be boring or unpleasant. There are plenty of easy activities you can do to lose weight, improve your health, and have fun!</p>
